We visited the Vermillion County Animal Shelter earlier this year when we were considering adopting a new furry friend. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work out between the pups, but during our meet and greets, we met some great people who are doing amazing work in their community.
Therfore, I’m please to share that the VCAS will be this year’s fundraising recipient!

From 8/12 to 10/1, 20% of all Alexis Walter Creations sales will be donated to the animal shelter.

February so far: it’s been a busy month!

For the first time in nearly three years, the gallery space is cleared of my artwork. The salon will be undergoing some changes, so I won’t be on display in that space for now. I do still have works on display in the main part of the salon, which can be purchased through the lovely ladies of the Loft, or in my Etsy shop online 🛍️

My day job is in marketing, and my coworker organized a Valentines giveaway, and she sweetly thought of promoting a small business that lives in our service area by using one of my paintings in the giveaway. I was so excited to have this chance to be tagged in something like this, and it was very different to be on both sides of this project.

I’ve been struggling to find my creative motivation these days, and I’ve slowly been creating things I don’t usually do to try to get myself out of a rut. My day job has had me so mentally exhausted that it’s hard to do anything but lay on the couch.
I’m experimenting this week with mini canvases and inspired by florals and Valentines Day, so I made a couple floral minis that are WIP. Last night I watched a clip on TikTok of someone painting and referencing Bob Ross, and I was suddenly inspired. I had a canvas in limbo and decided to apply those landscape techniques to a canvas with dried paint on it. I’m so in love with the results 💕

Lastly, I’ve got events to prepare for! I have a couple local events I’ll share later, but my work is going to be in display once again this spring! I’ll share more details this week but I was too excited not to share.

February so far: it’s been a busy month!

For the first time in nearly three years, the gallery space is cleared of my artwork. The salon will be undergoing some changes, so I won’t be on display in that space for now. I do still have works on display in the main part of the salon, which can be purchased through the lovely ladies of the Loft, or in my Etsy shop online 🛍️

I took a leap when I applied to lead a sip and pour painting workshop, and I’m really glad I did. I really enjoyed leading workshop I led at Allerton over the weekend, and it was really different to be leading an art class rather than being the creator. Being in that space with those great ladies was just the inspiration I’ve been looking for.

This may be the year for paint parties, but we’ll see 😊

Top 9 paintings of 2023 with a fun fact/story

1: I made this piece while painting along with a Bob Ross video, and it was the 3rd video of his I’d ever watched.

2: This piece is painted with plaster on canvas. The design was created with my hands and I painted the crevices to create depth. I’ve always wanted to make a piece like this one.

3: This was a gift commissioned for a very special birthday gift for my mom and is the second largest painting I’ve ever done.

4: Purple is one of my favorite colors and I was so inspired by many Bob Ross videos that I tried painting along with a second video, which resulted in this piece, Amethyst Forest.

5: Surprise! It’s another purple piece. I was feeling muted tones for fall, so I added hints of silver to pair with pale flowers. This also is my only floral piece with purple leaves.

6: This piece started off as a canvas to wipe my brush onto. At a certain point to try to get inspired I just started to create something organic. Then it began to look like a plant I was reminded of out West, and I continued this organic shape with brushes, pens, and glitter paint. It was spontaneous and helped get some of my creative flow back after a stressful first month of being a homeowner.

7: Found these metallic paint pens on Amazon, and I was so stoked to try out the rose gold. I tested it on a whim on the red flowers and loved how it brought a little sparkle. This piece is also one where I was experimenting with leaf shapes and styles.

8- This is my last pour of 2023. It started as two ring pours with the same colors on a purple background and morphed into this final result.

9: This was the last painting I finished this year. It was initially going to be placed by the bathroom door and have a quote from Christmas vacation, but the more I kept working on this wreath, the more I was enjoying it and getting ideas for other holiday designs. This is also my first wreath 🎄

What’s your favorite part of the pour process? There’s the layering of colors, the actual paint pouring itself, stretching the paint, finally witnessing the final product, all of which can vary some depending on the pouring method, viscosity, and more.
This shows two ring pours on a large canvas with a thin but wet background on canvas. It didn’t spread as easily as anticipated, but I trusted the process and got some of the unique stretching and cell development I was seeking. This was perfect for me to step away from the stressors of my day job and just focus on the task at at: stretching the paint to the corners of the canvas and vibe with my favorite music
